Very Good words Amanda, when I first started giving advice in 1981 the one thing that was told to me is through the constant contact with my peers and the education that the institutions provide means that as an adviser, I knew 10 times more than the client sitting in front of me. That always gave me the confidence to talk to people 40 years my senior and give them advice they need. Cheers Roland Knight
This is an outstanding article.
Historically the banks and large institutions such as AMP have developed advisers and that baton as been passed to us small businesses. If I'm honest, this is something that has had me a little nervous, unsure I have the skills, however it is also a great opportunity. These are some very practical foundations you've outlined that really demonstrate a path to successful growth.
Well said Amanda
These comments are refreshing and very logical.
Our profession is no different to others.
Most professions only require three qualities and you have explained outlined.
Honesty + Competence + Accountable
The first they have from day one, so age is nothing and Financial Planning is not that complicated, in fact clients love when you keep it simple. Most the strategies are basic and can be picked up by an intelligent person in weeks. A lot of the time you are stopping them from doing something stupid and the rest of the time you are encouraging them to do what they know themselves they should to doing anyway.
Lastly you are accountable for your advice so keep it simple and between the flags.
Please keep the commonsense stuff coming and hopefully the right people are listening.
