Travel agents are a dying breed and will bearely last another generation with the ease and simplicity of internet based travel bookings. The growth in on-line tax returns will also see the demise of simple tax returns and the death of organisations such as H & R Block. Financial planners will also be replaced by internet based software solutions. We are already seeing on-line risk profiling and direct personal insurance via the internet and telephone. Within 15-20 years with a more technologically savvy demographic the role of the financial planner will be nothing more than a footnote in our financial history books.
What a pessimistic viewpoint 'Anonymous' why don't you grow a backbone and put your name to that comment. Obviously you have no idea of the value that Financial Planners can add to clients financial house and your ignorance is clear to all.
A good example of product deliver vs service deliverer is the flood insurance debate now raging. I wonder how many victims of the flood bought their insurance in product delivery mode and how many sought service / advice? It is interesting to note in that debate the "value of advice" has not had a mention whereas regulating the industry seems to be a key theme.
